Railway Budget Highlights for 2015-16

Railway Budget for 2015-16:

  • 23 million people travel in trains every day.
  • 1.4 Lakh crore of annual income every year.
  • Out of 676 sanctioned projects only 317 were completed in the last three years.
  • Rs. 1.82 lakh crore is required to complete pending projects.
  • Around 13 lakh employees were working in railway.

Following are the highlights of the Railway Budget for 2015-16:

  1. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu says that there won’t be any hike in passenger fares.
  2. Railways unique integrator of modern India.
  3. Facilities not improved substantially over past few decades.
  4. Vicious cycle of under-investment must end.
  5. 1,219 sections on network – most of them overworked.
  6. In next five years, intention to substantially augment capacity.
  7. Investment of Rs.8.5 lakh crore in next five years.
  8. Over 20,00 suggestions received on improving facilities.
  9. Four goals: Deliver sustained improvement in customer facilities, Make railways safer means of travel, expand substantially, make Indian Railways self-sustainable.
  10. Budget part of trilogy: White paper already tabled, this budget, vision document soon.
  11. Railways backbone of national connectivity.
  12. Will partner with private sector to improve last mile connectivity.
  13. Railways unique integrator of modern India.
